8 Attributes of Organisational Leadership
"The excellent companies have two things simultaneously: tough environments and very supportive environments."
-Tom Peters.
The leadership of Charles H. Lightoller was perhaps never truly exalted, while he lived, a sailor all his life afflicted with the unfortunate legacy of the Titanic as second officer, has had numerous close calls and his life could be summed up in his role as 130 soldiers during the rescue ' evacuation of Dunkirk in World War II, aboard his ship, the Sundowner. This little 60-footer, built to hold forty five souls, almost overturned on numerous occasions. Lightoller, abandoned as a child and is no stranger to adversity, with courage did what was required for life to meet his closest call. [1] From time to time faced death and has never been crushed by it.
He had the spirit of high self-efficacy. These days it is also called resilience. This is a common denominator in good leader of the organization - '. Transformational attributes' of strong leaders
Some of transformational 'resilient' attributes of great leaders - and certainly represented in Charles H. Lightoller - are the following. They are:
- Courageous, determined and principled;
- Commitment and engaged in life;
- Cultivate their teams and individuals;
- Spirited, has unity, energy and passion;
- Able to withstand and overcome the loss of key personnel;
- Modest and humble and seek their quieter moments;
- Scalable: you can learn something intuitive,
- Able to inspire trust and obedience.
Lightoller was the family motto Lux Vestra, which means "Let your light." I think the quote from Tom Peters shows us that the growth in self-efficacy or resilience requires the harsh environment where the pressure is not frowned upon, but there is enough support and nourishment to offset a strong demand for bringing people together through . Lightoller was no stranger to adversity, and throughout a demanding life always seemed to stand still.
