New Tools for Effective Service

Throughout history, humans have always invented tools that are useful for their purposes. And today, every profession has its specialized tools. For example, carpenters, are from hammers to saws. Dentists are from extractors to small holes. Surgeons have scissors, scalpels, electro-etching and so forth. And what about us, electronic technicians? We also have our specialized tools.

Our work requires disassembling the units, perform testing of electronic circuits or mechanical, replace defective parts, test the operation of the equipment, and re-assemble the unit.

Our basic essential tools include the multimeter, screwdrivers and pliers, soldering iron to solder, tin, and so on. Another measurement instrument could be the oscilloscope, and other test equipment, depending on the type of service you require the unit. However, it is desirable to have at hand the tool or instrument necessary for each step of the repair process.

There are other tools that are not strictly necessary but are highly efficient, and in appropriate circumstances, help us repair our equipment at a fraction of normal time. That increases our revenues and prevent us from other major problems. Like what? From avoid damage to the equipment to do us harm ourselves.

For example, many of us have cordless screwdrivers. The same we streamline the process to assemble and disassemble the equipment. But they can achieve more.

Avoidable physical problems, such as "Carpal Tunnel Syndrome?, Which occurs when repetitive hand and wrist causing swelling of the tendons of the hand, which is extremely painful and inutilizante. So a Cordless Screwdriver is a tool that can prevent other problems. Another useful tool is the welding station. We can adjust the temperature, and keep it constant, ready to weld when we need it. Some bring the option of vacuum suction, to extract tin, and others include a system to remove the noxious fumes from welding, to avoid health problems.

The Computer as a Tool for Service As technology advances so fast, the computer has become a necessity in our lives. For us as technicians, getting information and electronic parts is easier through the Internet. There is a growing number of companies that provide information, and personal web-sites in Spanish to help in the work of searching for information to repair our equipment. Among them is our web techniciansfriend.com and many others. In addition, we need to have a computer, as many modern computers require adjustments by them. For example, video cameras, projection televisions and other modern products, need a program made by the manufacturer, and an interface to connect the computer to able to make adjustments. Other manufacturers offer service manuals in PDF format, which lowers the cost of printed service manuals, and we need the computer for viewing or printing. On the other hand, existing computer programs in Spanish, created only to effectively manage our Service Center. For example, the program created by planetabinario.com SCS, which is the official program used by Sony service centers in Puerto Rico, among other things allows you to:

Take precise control of the teams come to his shop to be repaired.

Print service tickets, estimates, and invoices.

Itemize parts used in repair.

Keep track of your inventory.

Equipment to service warranty on parts and / or work.

Generate endless reports using a system called Report Wizard ©

Keep track of parts and products sold.

Send lilies electronically to parent companies. (Sony, Aiwa, etc.).

Allow your customers to see the status of your equipment online.

Using bar codes to save time and money.

Best of all, you can download the program free from http://www.planetabinario.com.

The computer has also become an assistant to our common tools. For example, existing interfaces that turn your computer into an oscilloscope, what comes out cheaper than having to buy one, and will take up less space on your desk. Also There multimeters that connect via serial or USB port, where you can download data to the computer to be analyzed.

Undoubtedly, the computer is, and remains, one of the many tools needed to facilitate our work. In a next installment, I will talk about various electronic test equipment have been released recently, which could be extremely useful to expedite the repair time. Until next time!
