Behind The Music: The Benefits of Free Download

Download free music has become a dominant issue in society. Even since the inception of Napster and the court case that ensued, the issue of whether it is ethical to download music for free or not, has become public. The case against free music downloads has some valid points such as loss of income for musicians and the industry as a whole. However, viewed from a broader point, free music download sites such as Morpheus, Kazaa and Limewire has some positive benefits. These benefits not only affect the general public, but also affect the music industry.

Allowing free music download not only keep people without spending money on music you do not like, will also increase the total sales of albums and create a wider audience who is interested in a certain type of music that is not widely known. Speaking from the public standpoint, the downloading of music is much more convenient than shopping in a store. Just to download songs that people want, they will not need to buy the whole album of a band, which you may not like.

The increase in the price of CDs in the last five years has made it difficult for people to buy these CDs, which would normally have been the first in line to buy. The sites that allow free download music also contribute to saving money by the public. When an individual downloads a "simple" or "single", you can evaluate the song, and from there take the decision to share or not the entire album.

In a recent survey, two thirds of more than 1,000 students have said they were downloading music as a way to show songs before opening their wallets. The same two-thirds have said that after download music for free, their search ended in the purchase of an album (Raymond 38). Nobody wants to waste their money, and if a customer does not know whether you'll like the whole album, it is unlikely to be buying.

Otherwise, if people can acquire samples of the music before making any decisions, it is more likely to buy the CD if you have enjoyed. If the fans appreciate the music, they probably want to buy the albums, but may not have been exposed to this music if they had places to download music for free.
