Innovation in management, important factor in maintaining business success
Carlos Hurtado, a young manager of a service company that had a rapid growth over the past 4 years, he was encountering a series of problems that had been climbing and seemed to have no end in sight. The manager was no apparent reason why a company that was being conducted with the same recipe that took her to the top in the industry now was giving so many headaches and creating a working environment not favorable for organizational perspectives to be had.
In the first instance, thought that one of the key factors for increasing organizational problems was the lack of staff, the exponential increase in sales had surpassed human capabilities of current staff to handle them. Began recruiting new officials, but not only that, I look young, well-prepared professionals in order to compensate experience with scientific knowledge and new ideas, thinking and have the ideal formula within the organization.
After spending a couple of months to have incorporated the new professionals was that the problems continued to increase and there was no opposition in a ratio of improvements to counter this situation. He decided to start giving formal reprimands for their workers for every problem that arose under the premise that perhaps the workers were not giving their all in their functions, but the problems continued and with the additional aspect that had worsened the working environment because officials thought they were the best of which were unfair calls attention received.
Carlos began to be increasingly concerned that this series of internal problems began to generate a business slowdown that was having. The young manager decided to start the implementation of a system of quality management, thinking that this could become the solution of all internal problems. We launched the project with a big internal marketing, working groups were created, trained intensively for all staff and developed rather complex procedures that seek to embrace the most likely scenarios and how to treat, however, the situation business did not change and was beginning to affect customer satisfaction.
Overwhelmed by the problems that went beyond human capacity to manage, the manager called a meeting with his entire management staff to analyze because of the situation and the proposals would have to leave the situation. We analyzed all possible aspects and reached the following conclusion:
o The staff was very experienced and highly trained professionals supplemented, this is added the fact that he had intensive training program, thanks to the new quality management in place, so that way no weaknesses.
or turn the system of quality management processes were allowed to order and establish continuous improvement methodologies, at least on paper, so that part should have no problems, it was a matter of meeting formally established.
o The company had the most advanced technological development of local industry, thus, lack of support tools to streamline processes was not the problem.
o The company had the infrastructure and equipment needed to provide good service.
So what was the problem of the organization?, The young manager did not understand what was happening. But determining the cause of the problems was easier than might be expected, but unfortunately not easy to solve, the problem was that everything had changed except the address type that had been inherited from the former manager was from the beginning of the company and had led to their success to it, the company had grown, the environment had changed, the employees had changed, so the management style should also change according to changing needs, both internal and external.
But the young manager would not accept it, but was short of age but had inherited the old form of address and unconsciously did not want to change it, despite what digiese on the need to innovate and adapt to environmental changes. But every innovation in processes and working methods are useless if there is a change in managerial mindset that leads. The management style that led to success in an organization can be very good, but for existing environmental characteristics in the time it reaches the top, but it's probably not ideal for maintaining it. What was good was it before that time, but does not mean giving the same results for the current or future environment. Many companies that have achieved success have plummeted for maintaining the management style they had when they reach it. To maintain the success you have to constantly innovate everything, including the leadership style.
All business innovation must begin with innovation in management style, but every effort will not do much.
